Roxanne Thompson Fundraiser
Roxanne Thompson of Lake Park was in a motorcycle accident on August 27, 2022. Due to the accident she suffered a contusion to her spinal cord, chips to her vertebrae, broken ribs, damage to her knee and multiple other injuries. Within days of the accident she had surgery to place pins, rods and screws in her neck to attempt to relieve pressure on her spine. The days following she was in debilitating pain, unable to move her arms, hands or left leg. The contusion to the spinal cord left her neck, shoulders and arms in a constant state of tingling and very painful. Due to coverage disputes with insurance, Roxanne and her husband Randy, paid out-of-pocket for her to go to a therapeutic rehab facility for 4 weeks. It was there they discovered her right foot was also broken.
Several medical devices, as well as a wheel chair, walker, and a cane were needed when Roxanne was finally able to move home. Home adaptations were made to install handrails and shower/bathroom modifications were necessary. She requires assistance to do many of the activities of daily living (i.e., preparing and cutting food, combing her hair, picking up items off the floor, stairs, flossing her teeth) and needs help to dress. Despite a new and painful “normal” Roxanne’s daughter Michelle says she is always smiling and trying to overcome new obstacles.
Family members want to help alleviate some of the financial stress caused by overwhelming medical debt and lost wages, and have chosen to partner with Lend A Hand Up in their fundraising efforts. Lend A Hand Up will boost your online donation 20% – increasing your gift to make the most of your generosity Cash/Check gifts are also appreciated and should be made directly to the Roxanne Thompson Benefit Fund at State Bank of Lake Park.
