In February 2023, Rachel was experiencing upper respiratory issues that led her to be seen by multiple doctors with numerous tests and scans.  In early spring, she was diagnosed with a skull tumor that was found to be squamous cell cancer.  She has undergone multiple surgeries, the first being in June in her hometown of Fargo.  Her surgeon in Fargo then referred her to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, 6 hours away from her family & home.  Her medical team in Mayo recommended surgery to remove the aggressively growing tumor.  This very invasive surgery was in early August.  While her Mayo team considered the surgery a success so to speak,  they were unable to remove all of the cancer cells and recommended radiation & chemotherapy with the goal of eradicating all remaining cancer cells.  This course of treatment is a planned 6 week course (barring any setbacks) of radiation 6 times a week and weekly chemotherapy treatments.  Treatment started on Aug 21st.  She will need to remain in Rochester for the duration of this treatment plan because the medical facility in her hometown does not have the specialized equipment for the type of radiation she needs.

Rachel is a strong, independent, proud, and fun-loving person with a great sense of humor and outlook on life.  With humble hesitancy on Rachel’s part and MUCH encouragement from her friends, a giving site has been created by Rachel’s friends to help support her during this time of lost work hours, unexpected housing costs, and extra travel costs for her family while she is required to be in Rochester.  Rachel, her husband Ben, and their six children are so deeply appreciative of all the love and support that has been shown to them and continues to be shown to them.  Thank you for considering supporting them through a monetary donation, your generosity is noticed and greatly appreciated.
