Toward the end of 2022, 20-year-old Noah Fjeld of Dilworth began having some symptoms that appeared to be something simple like allergies or a cold such as a stuffy nose and difficulty breathing. After multiple failed antibiotics and steroids he developed a noticeable lump on his neck. A multitude of tests were completed and he was referred to an ENT doctor. At that time it was decided that a biopsy must be completed of the mass in the nasal cavity and the removal of the oversized lymphnode in his neck. The results of these tests confirmed the unthinkable. Noah was diagnosed with Paranasal Carcinoma. He is going to have a very long road ahead of him in getting the needed treatment. He will need to receive Proton Radiation which is only available at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN which is over 300 miles away from home.

To compound matters his mother, Sarah (Elstad), is currently fighting cancer for the second time in five years. In 2017, she was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer. After countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and several surgeries, she was cancer-free for four years. However, in 2021 she began having some very concerning symptoms and ultimately ended up being diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. There is no cure and she will need to continue with treatment for the rest of her life.

This road is going to be a long one which will be emotionally, physically, and mentally draining. And, of course, this is going to be financially draining.  Money raised will be used for medical, travel and lodging expenses.  Lend A Hand Up will increase the generosity of your gift 20% when you donate to his online fundraiser.  Cash/Check gifts must be made payable to Josh or Sarah Fjeld and dropped by Gate City Bank | 1119 9th St E | West Fargo, ND 58078.

This trip they met the doctors and Noah's mouth guard was made to help while he is receiving radiation. They will head back to Rochester on March 19 and then have to turn around and return the following day, all after a long day of appointments for radiation simulation/mapping, having his mask for radiation made and MRI scans completed. The first round of visits to Mayo Clinic will take place Monday, March 13, 2023 to Tuesday, March 14, 2023 where he will meet his team and be fitted for a mouth guard to protect his tongue and mouth while he receives his treatment. Then he will have scans about a week later and be fitted for a radiation mask. Sarah and Noah will be heading to Mayo, tentatively, at the end of March for seven long weeks. The plan that was developed is to have radiation five days a week and one infusion per week. Everything is happening so fast but the family is trying to take it one day at a time. The Fjeld family extends their gratitude for all of your support, donations (beyond grateful and blessed), and all the prayers and love.  ";}

    2nd chemo cycle and plan of attack

    2/16/23

    NOAH UPDATE 2/16/23 – Hello all! Wanted to share a quick update on recent things. Noah started his second cycle of chemotherapy today. He’s had some fatigue and nausea, but is taking it all in stride. His hair has started to fall out which we knew was coming but you really are never prepared for when it happens. The plan is to shave his head tomorrow. He’s handling everything like a champ. They had the first Zoom conference with the care team at Mayo Clinic, including his Oncologist. This treatment will be around six hours long. He did relatively well at his first long chemotherapy session and only felt rough for a couple of days. So, we are hoping he is able to take this one in stride as well. Also, I just want to take a minute again and thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes for Noah. These things are so greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed! P.S. we are also looking into having custom flash light keychains made as an additional source of donating! We kept up with his meds and kept nausea away. He had a good appetite and drank plenty of water to stay hydrated. He's looking forward to his off week. Noah has been such a trooper. His Oncologist is pleased with the results we've been able to visibly see so far! We do expect his hair to begin coming out next week. But all in all he's doing well. No appointments for him this coming week but Sarah has hers. She reports that they are all doing well as a family and that they thank everyone for all the support, love and prayers getting them through this. Noah is spending his weekend at Sarah's parent's house where he plans to do work on getting the new computer set up that Sarah's dad purchased for him, as well as doing some gaming on the PS5 with his uncle Mike.
