Mitchell Family Fundraiser
In March 2023, Piper and Greg’s world changed in ways they could never have imagined. Their son, Harvey Mitchell, was born with a pre-diagnosed condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Since then, Harvey has bravely endured three open-heart surgeries, and through it all, has continued to grow into the joyful, charismatic little boy they cherish today.
As they watched Harvey laugh and thrive, Piper and Greg felt it was time to expand their family. They consulted with every medical expert they could, seeking reassurance about the possibility of another heart condition. While they were told that a congenital heart defect (CHD) was more likely, they were reassured that the chances of having another child with HLHS were comparable to being struck by lightning or winning the lottery. Confident in their decision, they moved forward, and in May, they were thrilled to learn that Harvey would soon have a little brother.
But on July 2nd, their world shifted once more. Alden James Mitchell, their second son, was also diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome—a diagnosis so rare that only a handful of families have experienced it twice. Due in November, Alden will follow a similar path to his older brother, beginning life with open-heart surgery at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, followed by many more procedures and surgeries.
Piper plans to relocate to the Twin Cities in mid-October to be closely monitored as her due date approaches. Greg will continue working as much as possible before joining Piper and Harvey as they face this journey together. The Mitchell family is incredibly grateful for the unwavering love and support of their family, friends, and community.
