On April 10th, Lynsie went in for a scheduled exam after noticing some changes in her breasts over the past month, hoping it was nothing serious. Despite being under 40 and breastfeeding, which typically lowers the risk of breast cancer, the exam and subsequent tests revealed the devastating news: at just 31 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Further scans showed multiple connected masses in her left breast and infected lymph nodes, but fortunately, the cancer had not spread further. Her oncologist classified her cancer as stage 1b, a type that usually responds well to chemotherapy. She is set to begin her first chemotherapy and immunotherapy infusion on May 9th, with six treatments planned, one every 21 days. Following chemo, she will undergo a bilateral mastectomy in Sioux Falls due to the extensive spread of tumors and her HER2+ status, aiming to reduce the chances of recurrence. Post-surgery, she will have 20 radiation treatments over four weeks.

Lynsie and her husband, who reside in Horace, have been together for 12 years and married since 2020, are parents to a two-year-old son and a baby born last July. The past month has turned their world upside down. Having only recently returned from maternity leave, her accrued paid time off is limited, and she has used most of it for pre-treatment appointments. Despite feeling incredibly blessed to have a supportive workplace, the financial strain is immense and overwhelming. The emotional and financial burdens they face are paralyzing, even as they navigate this challenging time with the support of family and friends.

When you give online to this fundraiser, your gift goes directly to the family, and Lend A Hand Up provides a 20% financial boost to increase your giving value. The Lend A Hand Up boost applies solely to online gifts processed through this giving site. Should you wish to make a gift by cash or check, your generosity should be directed to the family or their fund at Gate City Bank, as Lend A Hand Up does not process cash or check gifts for families.
