Lisa Ness Fundraiser
In October, Lisa discovered a lump on her breast and, two weeks later, received a Stage 1 diagnosis of an aggressive form of invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). Shortly after starting chemotherapy, she opted for genetic testing, revealing a positive result for the BRCA 1 cancer gene. This led to a significant shift in her treatment plan, transitioning from a lumpectomy and radiation to a scheduled double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery on March 27th. Anticipating a minimum three-week absence from work, she expects a follow-up surgery six months later, with the possibility of additional smaller procedures in the future.
Lisa will undergo eight chemotherapy treatments, finding herself physically unable to work during those weeks. Fortunately, she enjoys a week off between treatments, allowing her to work at a slower pace. Being an elementary teacher is a physically demanding job, and she has found it to be even more physically taxing than before. This has prompted her to use a scooter at school to navigate, given challenges with prolonged standing and walking longer distances.
The out-of-pocket medical costs are set to accumulate, as she must travel from her home in Hawley to get to all her treatments and appointments. Lisa acknowledges the tremendous support from her family, particularly her husband, who has taken time off work to accompany her to chemotherapy treatments. Despite the challenges, she expresses confidence in overcoming the battle against cancer. Your online gift will be boosted by 20%, with 100% of your gift going directly to Lisa Ness.
