Lisa McDonald has Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease that attacks the lining of the joints.  This inflammatory type of arthritis causes joint pain, swelling and damage.  She has been treating it for years. A broken foot did not heal for over a year, shoulder surgery that required subsequent surgery and a lengthy recovery, and then a knee replacement.  The knee did not heal, requiring a second surgery to correct. Then an infection which required the joint to be removed.  Once she heals, another knee replacement will take place.

Mobility is tough for Lisa.  She has continued to work a few days/shifts as she was physically able over the last few years, and be a caregiver to her mother until her passing.   However, lost wages makes it especially challenging to cover living expenses, let alone all of the additional medical expenses and surgeries.
