In May of 2023, Joel started to feel pain in his hip. At first, it felt more like a dull pain where he thought he might have just pulled a muscle doing normal everyday activities. As it got closer to the end of the month the pain had progressed to the point where he thought he would need a hip replacement, so he went to several doctors and surgeons to discuss the pain. It was determined that it was not a hip issue, and Joel would need an MRI. The MRI was then scheduled, but before the day would come, the pain had worsened enough to go to the emergency room. While at the ER, the doctors did an MRI where it was determined that there was a mass in the left glut/hip area. 

Joel had several visits with an oncologist, getting multiple CT scans, when it was determined the mass was, in fact, cancer, Sarcoma. After receiving the diagnosis, he was referred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is now going through chemo and planning for surgery in late December/early January. The cancer is causing enough pain to affect his walking and normal day activities and with the added medical expenses, treatments, and planning for surgery and the prosthetic, any support at this time helps.
