Jodi Buzick Fundraiser
An incidental finding from a bone scan identified a tumor in Jodi Buzick’s left frontal lobe. After monitoring the tumor for changes over a six month timeframe, Jodi’s neurologist prescribed an aggressive treatment plan for what they decided was…fibrous dysplasia. Fibrous Dysplasia is a very rare bone disease that affects 1 and 30,000 patients – her symptoms included nothing more than nasal congestion and generalized headaches so this diagnosis came to all as an unwelcome surprise. There was no indication how long the tumor had been there, or how quickly it had grown. After speaking with her medical team and her family, they decided the best course of action would be to remove the tumor before the end of 2021 and surgery was scheduled for December 22nd. She was placed on a 12 week mandatory recovery plan and although it was a very long and challenging time, she persevered and even planning her return to work. Recently, however, her plan veered off course when she developed an unexpected cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak and found herself once again in the Emergency Department. A MRI/CT indicated it would be necessary for a drain to be placed in Jodi’s spinal cord. After a lengthy procedure and hospital stay, Jodi is now recovering at home once again.
