Jeff McKinnon Fundraiser
Jeff McKinnon has been diagnosed with relapsed aggressive Multiple Myeloma, a type of blood cancer of plasma cells. Plasma cells are normally found inside the bone marrow. Relapsed multiple myeloma means that your multiple myeloma has come back after a period of remission. Originally diagnosed in July 2018, Jeff endured several rounds of chemo and radiation here in Fargo and went to Rochester, MN Mayo clinic for an autologous stem cell transplant (45 days) which uses healthy blood stem cells from your own body to replace your diseased or damaged bone marrow. This transplant was successful, and cancer was in remission for about 6 months.
The September transplant will be an allogeneic stem cell transplant; A procedure in which a patient receives healthy blood-forming cells (stem cells) from a donor to replace their own stem cells that have been destroyed by treatment with radiation or high doses of chemotherapy. Currently you can not get the stem cell transplant here in Fargo and Jeff will need to reside on outpatient treatment with round the clock care from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The plan is for 10 days of more pre-transplant testing, 15 days of a chemo and radiation regimen, and to receive the transplant around Sept 23, then 100 days post-transplant (and post holidays) Jeff can return home.
Please join us in raising help and hope for Jeff and his family.
