Jason Johnson Fundraiser
Jason is married to his high school sweetheart, Tami. Together they live in Sabin, MN, along with their children Davis (12), Phoebe (7) and 2 dogs. Both Jason and Tami work for CCRI in Moorhead as Facilities Lead and RN Supervisor, respectively. CCRI works to support people with disabilities. Jason is extremely loved by clients and staff. They are both active in their wide community of the Sabin, Barnesville, Moorhead, and Pelican Rapids areas. Jason helps coach football and softball teams and both are involved in Kamp Kace. In the summer or winter, you can find (or maybe can’t find!) Jason fishing and in the fall deer hunting. Spending time outdoors, watching the Vikings or Twins, and being active with his kids are huge parts of Jason’s life. Jason is a fixer of anything and a Jack Of All Trades. He is skilled with his hands and loves to share this gift with others. Jason’s happiness, positivity, generosity, and laughter are part of his core self.
In August 2022 Jason was diagnosed with an epidermoid cyst/benign tumor that was located near and wrapped around his brain stem. Jason had surgery March 3rd to remove the tumor which was successful at removing 90% of it. Jason was able to discharge home after four days in the hospital/ICU! Aseptic meningitis, an infected surgical plate, and two bouts of infectious meningitis have led to three additional hospitalizations and trips down to Rochester at Mayo Clinic. Jason was readmitted to the hospital in Fargo and transferred back to Mayo Clinic via air transport on May 8th for his third bout of meningitis.
Donations will be used to support paying out-of-pocket medical expenses, help support the family while both Jason and Tami are missing work, travel expenses to and from Rochester, lodging, food, and other needs that arise that are related to his recovery. Lend A Hand Up will boost your online gift 20% – 100% of the funds go to the family.

After 2.5 weeks of extreme fatigue and pain, he's finally feeling back to his normal self. He'll be coming home with a PICC line and IV antibiotics. Unfortunately, his 3 month lifting restriction (no bending or lifting over 10 pounds) had to restart 2 weeks ago, so he'll be on restrictions for most of the summer. Last week his vision got really blurry and is still double/blurry, so no driving for now. The doctors do think the vision will improve again once the meningitis resolves. He continues to have a relentless positive attitude. We can't wait to have him back home.";}

I wanted to share some additional information about Jason's current medical status. He was air lifted from Fargo to Rochester on May 8. Once he arrived, they placed a lumbar drain to relieve pressure and spinal fluid. These things had increased due to the meningitis. Even after starting antibiotics, he continued to have severe headaches, backpain and worsening vision. They continued more investigating and on 5/13/23 found he has a viral meningitis (Varicella Zoster) in addition to the residual bacterial meningitis. Once they started treatment for the viral meningitis, his symptoms have slowly improved every day. He continues to have the lumbar drain in and they have been draining fluid off it every hour. We don't have a plan for discharge yet.";}
