Jack, of Detroit Lakes, fell ill in August 2023, initially suspected of having a tick-borne disease. Despite treatment, his health deteriorated, and subsequent tests ruled out the initial diagnoses. A CT scan revealed mediastinal lymph nodes, prompting further investigations. Jack was admitted to Fargo Sanford’s oncology floor due to severe symptoms. Multiple consultations, including pulmonary, infectious disease, cardiology, and more, were conducted, but conclusive results remained elusive. Hospitalizations continued, with Jack diagnosed with pneumonia and pericarditis. Mayo Clinic consultations led to the discovery of follicular thyroid cancer.

Despite ongoing uncertainties and numerous hospitalizations, Jack’s condition and undiagnosed chest situation remain unresolved. Follow-up appointments and surgery are scheduled in December. The family remains grateful for the support from friends, family, and the Mayo Clinic team. Thank you all for taking the time to read our story, for all the prayers and continued prayers for our family, and for all the love, encouragement, and support as we walk through this next season. We have been and continue to be lifted up by all the prayers. Your online gift will be boosted by 20%, with 100% of your gift going directly to Jack and his family. Cash/checks may be gifted directly to Jack Goodrich.

Update… hello friends and family. Thank you so so so much to all that continue to pray for Jack and our family. Our family has been and continue to be lifted up by all the prayers. We appreciate the continued prayers, love, support, encouragement, strength, and inspiration as we walk through this next season and journey. We wanted to give an update…. Jack’s health continues to deteriorate. We ended up coming back to the Mayo ER on December 4th, per Jack’s doctor suggesting that would be the best considering discussion over the phone with him. Upon arriving here, they preformed an EKG, x-ray, blood work and then we waited patiently to get into an ER room. Ounce we were able to get into the ER room, they preformed a bunch of tests and decided they needed to admit Jack again. The doctors preformed a Ct scan on Jack and after results were back from that, they discovered the mass in the center of Jack’s chest had grown 6 cm more just since 2 weeks ago when he was in the hospital. Jack had a PET scan the following day. After much collaboration with Jack’s different teams of doctors, they decided they wanted to preform surgery and go in and remove the masses in Jack’s chest. Praise God. Answered Prayers. It is also a little scary with them still not knowing what they are before removing them, but we are continually trusting in the Lord. It will be an invasive surgery. They will go in through Jack’s right side, making at least 5 different incisions, deflating his lung, and removing the masses in Jack’s chest. The doctors are hoping with the significant change in growth of the mass that there will be definitive evidence when they send it to pathology. They are also going to remove a few normal lymph nodes, so pathology has something to compare to. Jeremiah 17:7 says this, “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” (NLT). This is what we continue to do through all of this. The doctors are hoping that with the new growth of the mass, there will be definitive evidence when they send them to pathology, and then they can come up with a definitive treatment plan. Jack’s heart also went into atrial fibrillation for a 4 th time while going through all of this. The doctors were able to get it to go back into normal sinus rhythm after about 15 hours with medication instead of having to shock it. Another praiseworthy moment and answered prayers. They have Jack hooked up to a tele monitor that they are constantly looking at of his heart. Jack also has surgery scheduled for December 18th for his thyroid cancer. 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, God often works in the unseen. Just because we can’t see it or feel it doesn’t mean He isn’t working. God continues to reassure us of His promises. We continue to be lifted up by all of the prayers. We continue to feel them beyond measure. We are so thankful and grateful for the continued prayers, support, love, encouragement, strength, and inspiration as we walk through this next season and journey. God has been and continues to be so faithful to us. The Bible verses God has given us along the way, has helped with encouragement, wisdom, faithfulness, compassion and direction and the list goes on and on for the difficult situation and season and journey we are facing. God’s word has also given us an abundance of peace, joy, passion and purpose. Psalm 119:1-2: Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! Delighted in God’s word-we delight in You God and Your word. Romans 15:13- Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. We continue to trust in the Lord. Lord, You are the way when there seems to be no way. Lord, You are a miracle working God. Lord, You are the miracle of joy in the middle of this season and journey of uncertainties and unknowns. Lord, we thank You and give You all the praise for being the miracle working God that You are. We thank You, Lord for the peace You give to us when we continue to keep our hearts and minds steadfast on You, Lord. God’s faithfulness has been so encouraging to us. May God’s glory continue to be revealed. Praise be to God always. We continue to recognize God’s goodness as He continues to work in and through this season and journey. Psalm 138:8- says,” The Lord will work out His plans for my life – for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. We are trusting and resting in God’s plans for this season and journey, even though we don’t understand all of it, it is God’s plan, and we continue to trust in Him and His faithfulness. We love all of you so so so much. Go team Jack!
