Brady Prochnow is a 16-year-old sophomore at West Fargo High School.  He attempted to take his life on March 22 and is now fighting for life at Sanford pediatric intensive care unit.  There are so many ways to describe Brady. He’s an old soul, a gentle giant, the family’s own personal Buddy the Elf, their “Bubsy”.  He loves everything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and nothing more than his brothers and his dog, Ozzy.  He can befriend anyone with ease by starting up a conversation, as if you’ve been friends for years. He gives the best bear hugs around. Mental health is such a difficult thing, and has such a huge stigma attached to it. Brady has struggled the last few years with this. His parents have been working with him and the various resources available, and told him often that there is no hurdle that can’t be overcome, no one thing that he can’t come to them about. On that Wednesday evening things got to be too much – he told his family in a note that he loved them and attempted to take his own life.  Brady’s parents Bobbi and Mike Prochnow hope that by sharing their story more parents will talk with their children regarding mental health. “OK” doesn’t always mean we are.  The teenage brain is impulsive – he didn’t do this to hurt anyone, it’s just hard to reason out consequences during these years.  Whatever was happening in that very moment was bigger than him, and bigger than any promise he made to us to never do something like this.

Loved ones have stepped forward to raise help and hope for Brady and his family.  Lend A Hand Up will  boost your online donation made here 20% – 100% of donations go directly to the family fund. Cash/Check donations should be gifted directly to the Brady Prochnow Benefit Fund and dropped by Gate City Bank.

Keeping Brady and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I battled depression growing up and into my adulthood. It is only in the last few years that I have found peace. It is a hard and lonely road to travel. No matter how many people you have who surround you with love there is an emptiness that you can’t get rid of. Praying for physical and mental healing.
